Divisions and Programs

Currently, St. Bernadette CYO provides three seasons of sports opportunities for our children: Fall Soccer, Winter Basketball, and Spring Baseball, Softball and T-Ball. All of our teams are coached and commissioned by volunteer parents and local adults who have undergone Child Protection Policy training and fingerprinting with the Archdiocese of Washington.

Every sport has a volunteer Commissioner for K-2nd Grade, 3rd – 8th Grade Girls and 3rd – 8th Grade Boys. These positions are held generally for approximately 2-3 years and require approval of the CYO Board.

Fall Soccer Program

Early September thru October – Registration is in May

Registration occurs for this sport season in late spring, during the month of May. Evaluations occur in the late spring as well so that teams are in place and ready to play when school resumes in September.

St. Bernadette CYO Soccer Program fields teams from K-8th grade. See FAQs Page for breakdown of levels. Season runs from early September (practices can begin at the end of August) until mid to late October.

Intramural Program (K-2nd) holds practices/scrimmage style games for K-2nd on Friday nights on the field with our Fred Adami Snack Shack available for hamburgers &apm;apm; hotdogs and other tasty treats. This program runs from 6-8 weeks dependent on schedule and weather. All families are welcome!

1st and 2nd Grade children play against other local CYO teams on Saturday mornings at reasonably distanced locations. 2nd graders have Archdiocesan employed referees. Generally, Kindergarten and first grade are coed and 2nd grade converts to single gender but final decision on this is based on numbers of children registered to make fair and balanced teams.

Children enrolled in the TYKE kindergarten program are welcome to play – they are placed on Kindergarten teams.

Rookies (3rd & 4th Gr) hold one practice per week and one game generally on weekends against local CYO teams. These games have Archdiocesan employed referees. Teams are designed to be evenly balanced in skill level.

J.V. (5th & 6th Gr) and Varsity (7th & 8th Gr) holds two practices per week and one or two games on weekends. These games have Archdiocesan employed referees. There are varying levels of skill with A & B & sometimes C level teams and Tournament and Non- Tournament Teams. Mandatory Evaluations determine placement on A Team.

Cross Country Program

Early September thru October – Registration will usually be in May
(Open enrollment from August until Sept 17^th)

This program is in its formative stages right now with St. B’s. Currently, there will be a program for 3rd – 8th grade students wishing to participate. There are 4 meets scheduled by the Archdiocese starting September 27th.

Winter Basketball Program

Early January thru Early March – Registration is in Sept/Oct

Registration occurs for this sport season in Late September and Early October. Evaluations occur in the late October and early November and start of play generally occurs after return from Christmas break in January.

Intramural Program (K-2nd) holds practices/scrimmage style games for K-2nd on Saturday mornings at a local school. This program runs from 6-8 weeks dependent on schedule and weather. There are no weeknight practices for this program.

Generally, Kindergarten is coed and 1st & 2nd grade are joined but convert to single gender (however, final decision on this is based on numbers of children registered to make fair and balanced teams).

Children enrolled in the TYKE kindergarten program are welcome to play – they are placed on Kindergarten teams.

There are no referees at this level – program is coach managed.

3rd &apm;apm; 4th Grades are separated out for basketball. 3rd grade only plays in a Montgomery County league. Parents are required to complete 2 additional forms for play in this league. 4th grade plays against other CYO teams.

J.V. (5th & 6th) and Varsity (7th & 8th) holds two practices per week and one or two games on weekends. These games have Archdiocesan employed referees. There are varying levels of skill with A & B & sometimes C level teams and Tournament and Non- Tournament Teams. Mandatory Evaluations determine placement on A Team.

High School Teams hold two weeknight practices and one or two weekend games. Evaluations are dependent on numbers of players, but not generally necessary.

Spring Baseball, Softball and T-Ball Program

Mid April thru May – Registration is in February

Registration occurs for this sport season in February. Evaluations occur in early March and start of play generally occurs in early April.
