- What are the fees for each sport?
- Fees are determined by cost of field rental and gym-time rentals and are
somewhat subsidized by fundraising and donations. See the registration page for
current rates.
- Can I coach?
- Anyone can express interest in coaching and volunteering with any board
members or at stbernadettecyo@gmail.com and also on your child’s registration.
All coaches and volunteers spending any time with our children, must go through
VIRTUS training and complete a fingerprinting/background check with the
Archdiocese before starting.
- When do evaluations start and who gets evaluated?
- Evaluations are dependent on what level your child is playing on. Evaluations
generally occur within a few weeks of the close of registration.
Levels and Evaluations
- Intramurals (K & TYKE thru 2nd Grades) have no evaluations. This
level of play is not involved with the Archdiocese – goal is exposure and
basic skill building.
- Rookies (3rd & 4th Grades) undergo evaluations with coaches to ensure a balance of skills across all teams.
- Junior Varsity (5th & 6th Grades) undergo evaluations for A & B
Team placement. Evaluations are mandatory for A Team placement.
Evaluations are designed to be as objective as possible.
- Varsity (7th & 8th Grades) undergo evaluations for A & B Team
placement. Evaluations are mandatory for A Team placement.
Evaluations are designed to be as objective as possible.
- High School (9th – 12th Grades) Basketball only. Affords H.S. players
an opportunity to play at an intramural level against other local teams.
Generally, no evaluations necessary.
- How are Evaluations Performed?
- The Rookie (3rd & 4th Grade) program performs evaluations by the coaches to
create teams with balance in skill level. There is no A & B team division at this level.
Attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended. Coaches are matched with
their child’s team.
- The J.V. (5th & 6th Grade) and Varsity (7th & 8th Grade) levels require Mandatory
Evaluations for placement on A, B, and sometimes C level teams. Within these
divisions, there is sometimes Tournament vs. Non-Tournament Teams as well.
Evaluations are designed to be objective with little to no coach input except for
bubble decisions. Every attempt is made to match coaches with their children. A
Team placement will not take place without participation in evaluations.
- For more information about the Archdiocesan model for the evaluation
process go to: WASHCYO Athletic Handbook
- Can my child play if they have had a recent injury or illness?
- If a child has had a broken bone, sprain or other related injury or illness that could
inhibit their ability and/or safety during sports play it is up to the parents of the player
to make the situation known to commissioner and/or coaches and receive medical
clearance before playing and practicing with the team.
